Rohan Carriappa vs MTV Hustle: The Tea You Didn’t Know You Needed!
The Desi Hip-Hop (DHH) scene has been set ablaze with the latest chai ka cup overflowing between Rohan Carriappa and the iconic (read: ironic?) MTV Hustle. Yes, the Rohan Carriappa—the guy who’s practically Google Translate for bars, exposing layers of metaphor that most of us didn’t even know existed. From decoding “bars ke piche” to showing us the harsh mirror of the industry, Rohan has been more integral to DHH than autotune is to modern pop.
But yeh sab drama shuru kaise hua?
What Went Down
Rohan, a name synonymous with breaking down the rap game, has been a relentless advocate of keeping it real in hip-hop. Over the years, his content has not only informed us but also shaped how the audience perceives the genre. For many of us, MTV Hustle wasn’t just a show; it was an event. But this event wasn’t complete without Rohan’s breakdowns, his honest critiques, and his unapologetic takes.
Turns out, Rohan wasn’t just a fan—he was part of the internal core team for Hustle. Yes, the same show where people wanted him to be a squad boss because:
- Rap encyclopedia: Jo aap soch bhi nahi sakte, wo bande ne samjha diya hai.
- Industry OG: He’s been in this game longer than your overpriced sneakers have been in fashion.
- Unfiltered honesty: This man has no chill, and that’s exactly why we love him.
- Passion for the culture: Rohan breathes hip-hop. Uska blood type hai B-positive-for-bars.
But the truth has a way of making people uncomfortable. As aptly said,
“Jab mai dene jaata ‘REALITY,’ inhe hazam hota nahi, isliye INDIA mei rap safal hota nahi.”
(Translation: Honesty doesn’t sit well with them; maybe that’s why rap hasn’t reached its full potential in India.)
And that’s where the cracks appeared. According to reports, Rohan’s relationship with Hustle soured when his brutally honest feedback became too hard to digest. The fallout reached its peak when MTV allegedly took down Rohan’s YouTube channel—the same channel that introduced us to the depth of this art form. This takes me back to what Dhanji said… if you know, you know.
Bars samajh nahi aare? Rohan bhai hai na! Oh wait… not anymore, apparently.
A Bigger Problem
Hip-hop was built on rebellion. “Jo baat keh nahi paa rahe ho, woh gaa ke suna do.” It was a platform for the oppressed to speak their truth. But when the same industry becomes a business model to suppress voices, what’s left of its soul?
Today’s industry feels like:
“Paper kama, paper kharch.”
It’s all about money. Authenticity has taken a backseat, and art has become a product. Shows like MTV Hustle, which claim to represent real artists, now seem more like highlight reels curated for clicks and views.
But hip-hop isn’t supposed to be sold. It isn’t supposed to silence its loudest, most honest voices.
The Solution
We, the audience, hold immense power. Remember when we brought Bella back? Well, it’s time to do it again. Let’s show MTV Hustle and everyone else who tries to suppress the truth what we stand for.
Tag them in your stories, flood their comment sections, and let them know we’re here for reality, not manufactured drama. Even some of the biggest names in the scene—Karma, Ikka, Krsna, Youngsta, and Fotty Seven—have rallied behind him. Now, it’s our turn to stand up and make our voices heard.
Hip-hop deserves better. Rohan deserves better.
Let’s bring back his channel, his voice, and the spirit of DHH.

Because at the end of the day, “REAL” always wins.
Update: Raftaar, on an instagram live told people that he’s been talking to the MTV for the resolution of the matter. He said that he is confident that the resolution would be in the favour of the DHH overall. He also urged fans to show some patience and support the artists in the meantime.
