Social media influencers Rohan Cariappa and Shaayan Bhattacharya were arrested by Bengaluru cyber crime police for posting an Instagram video that offended the hearing-impaired community. The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) filed a complaint with Delhi police, accusing them of mocking sign language and demanding an apology.

The complaint, filed in mid-July, stated that the video violated the Right to Life with Dignity Act (Section 21) and the IT Act 2000. The deaf community in Bengaluru also reported the incident to local cyber crime police.

Since both influencers are based in Bengaluru, Delhi police collaborated with local authorities, resulting in their arrest. Cariappa and Bhattacharya, also known as RJ Shaayan, are radio jockeys who have since deleted the video and issued an apology.

The controversial video allegedly featured a sign language interpreter making inappropriate gestures and using offensive language for entertainment purposes.

The NAD claimed the video insulted the deaf community and violated the RPWD Act, urging strict action against the influencers for their offensive content.
